- Azuma arrives in London for first passenger service, 11:03am from London King’s Cross to Leeds.
- Azuma trains will travel to Leeds, Wakefield, Doncaster, Peterborough and London. Other stations will be added throughout 2019.
May 14 saw the launch of the Class 800 Azuma train for LNER with a press run from London King’s Cross to Peterborough.
From May 15, one diagram will transfer to Azuma operation and include Hull and Leeds. LNER will increase use of Azuma over the next few months.
The operator has on order 65 trains, all being built by Hitachi at NewtonAcyliffe, Co Durham, some are electric only, others are bi-mode. The larger fleet size will allow an increase in frequency to some destinations including Lincoln, but the introduction of services to new destinations.
