RPPR memories

I WAS very interested in John Vaughan’s letter (RM Nov, p60) regarding RPPR tours, as I was one of the many modern traction railfans who participated in them.

They were always well organised and had interesting routes and destinations, and there was certainly a camaraderie among those who participated.

I recall a visit to Consett steelworks on the ‘County Durham Crusader’ tour, which took place on May 19, 1979. This was a superb tour involving Classes 08, 37 and 40 – a great day out for a reasonable fare!

Many of us remember these tours with great affection, so ‘thank you, John’ for organising them and providing many hours of enjoyment!
