THE first train that will be eventually used on Elizabeth line (Crossrail) services has been delivered to Ilford depot, east London.
‘Aventra’ set No. 345002 was delivered from Bombardier’s Derby works by DB Cargo’s
No. 67013 on December 9 and is one of 66 EMUs destined for service on Crossrail.

Because the Crossrail route is not yet completed, the first 17 Class 345s are being built as seven-car sets and will be introduced on TfL’s Liverpool Street to Shenfield services from May, allowing the ageing Class 315s to be retired. Once platforms on the Great Eastern suburban route have been lengthened, the units will have an extra two vehicles added by the end of 2019.
The nine-car sets from No. 345018 will enter service on London Paddington to Heathrow Airport services from May 2018
The first of the 450-seat 90mph trains is still undergoing more specific testing at the RIDC test track at Old Dalby, Leicestershire.
