BULLEID ‘Battle of Britain’ No. 34081 92 Squadron is back and looking better than ever following an extensive overhaul at the Nene Valley Railway’s Wansford workshops.
The work has been carried out by the Battle of Britain Locomotive Society over the last six years, starting almost as soon as the Light Pacific arrived at Wansford from the North Norfolk Railway in May 2010.
The boiler was despatched to Chatham for overhaul the following January, but almost all of the remaining work on the loco has been completed in house.

On December 12 a resplendent 92 Squadron, wearing a striking British Railways malachite green with sunshine yellow lettering, was rolled outside for testing and weighing, and to have a warming fire lit. This was the first time that the ‘Spam Can’ had seen a fire as a complete locomotive since 2008 when it was withdrawn with 13 broken stays.
