The repaint inspired the September 29 diesel day to be become a Gateshead TMD-themed diesel shunter gala over two days, 28th and 29th.
For the first time the railway had visiting loco No. 03079 for an enthusiast event. This is another ex-Gateshead shunter, now based on the Derwent Valley Railway.
NTSR resident Class 08 No. 08915, also in BR blue, was renumbered as sister No. 08802 (D3970) for the event. The actual No. 08802 was allocated to Gateshead from 1984-91.
Volunteers have transformed the underframe of an old tank wagon into an 03 match wagon, which these locos often worked with.
Nos. 03078 and 08915 are seen at Middle Engine Lane on July 30 with the 03’s match wagon during rebuilding. Picture: JOSEPH STUART
