WORK on the first of five Class 153 units to be converted for use by ScotRail on the West Highland line has begun at Brodies in Kilmarnock.
Under ScotRail’s plan, these designated carriages, with space for cycles and large sporting equipment, as well as additional seating, will be used with the Class 156 units that work West Highland Line services.

Brodies will give the carriages a full interior and exterior refresh, including installation of free wi-fi, at-seat power sockets and a refurbished toilet with controlled emission toilet (CET) tank.
The first refurbished Class 153 carriage is due for delivery in 2020 and will be gradually rolled into service on the completion of staff training.
