Video 125 is releasing a film showing the very first Intercity railway in the world, filmed before the overhead wires went up.

The team at Video 125 travel aboard a Northern Rail class 156 Sprinter, starting at Manchester Airport before joining the original L&M route surveyed and built by George Stephenson.

“We see the whole Airport Branch, the Stockport-avoiding line and the approach and through platforms at Manchester Picadilly, one of Network Rail’s worst bottlenecks over the elevated section through Oxford Road.”

Take a look at Chat Moss from the cab and from a helicopter flying overhead, plus Video 125 take you through Rainhill over the ground covered by Stephenson’s famous Rocket – the winner of the Rainhill Locomotive Trials in 1829. Edge Hill is another place associated with the railway and from here the line descends into Liverpool Lime Street through a Myriad of tunnels – seen best of all from the driver’s cab.
