PLANS to redevelop the former Waterside station in Derry/Londonderry as a new £26million transport hub have been boosted by the acquisition of the site by Northern Ireland Railways’ parent company Translink.
The 1873-built Grade II-listed structure, together with a 0.7 plot of land, have been bought to be incorporated into the new facility, which will include park-and-ride facilities and improved public transport to the city centre.
The new facility is being marketed as the North-West Multimodal Transport Hub, with the deadline for feedback on a public consultation expected to close on January 20.

The project is being spearheaded by Translink in conjunction with Derry City & Strabane District Council, and is currently at the design and planning stage.
It is hoped that reconstruction will begin in mid-2018, with completion by 2020.
