THE East Lancashire Railway held its spring gala just a week after the Keighley & Worth Valley, hanging a Lostock Hall tag on the proceedings.

Around 3,000 passengers turned out to pay homage to the famous North West shed, the theme strengthened with the presence of Riddles ‘4MT’ No. 76084, ‘Black Fives’ Nos. 45212 and 45407, and Stanier ‘8F’ No. 48624 from the Great Central Railway.

Also in action were Andy Booth’s L&Y ‘A’ class 0-6-0, freshly outshopped as BR No. 52322, ‘West Country No. 34092 City of Wells and ‘Crab’ No. 13065. Nos. 45212, 13065, 45407 and 48624 are pictured at Bury on March 6, with the ‘Crab’ temporarily assuming the BR guise of No. 42765 at the front end only. ANDREW DENNISON
