BLS in Trans-Pennine ‘rare track’ trek

THE Branch Line Society’s sixth tour of rare track using a TransPennine Express Class 185 DMU will run on May 7.

The ‘Vallum Hadriani Tracker’ tour will be raising money for the Railway Children charity, an organisation that provides support for street children across the world.

Pathfinder’s ‘Waste Train’ visited two domestic refuse terminals in the north-west of England on March 11. DB Cargo’s No. 66125 sits at the buffer stops at Knowsley Freight Terminal on Merseyside. The tour also ran to the Bredbury waste terminal in Manchester. COLIN WAREING

The tour starts in Manchester and will cross the Pennines via Diggle to Huddersfield, Leeds, York, Northallerton, Thornaby, Sunderland and Newcastle before taking the ‘West Road’ to Carlisle and back via the West Coast Main Line to Wigan and Manchester.

The full route, containing many rare lines and loops is as follows: Manchester Piccadilly platform 12 (PU 09.00) – Stalybridge p3 – Diggle Down passenger loop – Huddersfield (PU 09.35) – Dewsbury Down main – Leeds p16 (PU 10.00).
