THE patterns used to cast the newly recorded 100mph driving wheels of Peppercorn ‘A1’ Tornado will be loaned to the B17 Steam Locomotive Trust to produce the six drivers for new-build ‘Sandringham’ No. 61673.
Agreement has been reached with the A1 Steam Locomotive Trust for the ‘B17’ to use the patterns for the 6ft 8in diameter wheels, which will be cast at the Sheffield plant of William Cook Cast Products Ltd at a cost of £10,000 for each wheel.
A ‘sponsor-a-spoke’ scheme has been set up to help meet the costs, with supporters able to sponsor a full spoke at £500 or a section of a spoke at £20 per inch.
