AN ISSUE concerning the boiler paperwork for Pontypool & Blaenavon Railway-based ‘Austerity’ No. 71515 Mech Navvies Ltd meant the RSH-built 0-6-0ST missed the first day of the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway’s inaugural Little Engines Gala on July 7.
The problem was rectified with the insurers later that day, and the loco (7169/1944) was cleared to run on the Saturday and Sunday.
Also in operation during the event were visiting Beattie 2-4-0WT No. 30587, ex-Taff Vale 0-6-2T No. 85 (itself having a strong industrial pedigree) and the Bahamas Locomotive Society’s LNWR ‘Coal Tank’ No. 1054, and Hudswell, Clarke 0-6-0T Nunlow (1704/1938).
