NETWORK Rail and train operators are making plans to minimise disruption for passengers during the ‘once-in-a-generation’ replacement of track and signalling in and around Derby station next summer.
A 79-day programme of engineering works will start on July 22, 2018 requiring significant changes to timetables through to October 7.
The £200million project will require platform closures and diversions to enable the replacement of life-expired track, as well as changes to the track layout and new signalling to increase capacity and efficiency. Work will also include preparation for electrification of the Midland Main Line through the city, although this has now been cancelled by the Government.

EMT services to London, Crewe, Matlock and Nottingham will be affected at different times during the phased work, but CrossCountry trains will be diverted to avoid the city, running via the Stenson Junction to Sheet Stores Junction freight line, Toton and the Erewash Valley route to Chesterfield.
