A MONTH is a long time in the world of railway preservation as West Somerset Railway found out when two of its announced Autumn Steam Gala guest locomotives were pulled from the line-up.
On September 10 the Camelot Locomotive Society (CLS) announced it had been forced to remove BR ‘5MT’ No. 73082 Camelot from the October 5-8 gala, stating they “were not able to complete the arrangements in good time prior to the departure of the locomotive at the beginning of next month”. Instead, the CLS hopes to rearrange the visit for some time during 2018.
Agreement has therefore been reached for the Dartmouth Steam Railway’s BR ‘4MT’ No. 75014 Braveheart to appear in the ‘5MT’s’ place, being only the second ‘4MT’ 4-6-0 to run on the line in preservation and the first for more than 20 years; the last was No. 75069 in 1995.

No. 75014 only returned to steam last December after a 10-year hiatus, and its trip to Somerset will be No. 75014’s first visit away from Paignton.
