TRANSPORT for London put steam back onto the Metropolitan lines over the weekend of September 9-10 in what it branded as Vintage Summer Steam.
The weekend was effectively a 21st century take on the classic Steam on the MET events, featuring the Buckinghamshire Railway Centre’s Metropolitan Railway ‘E’ class 0-4-4T No. 1, Dennis Howells’ Hawksworth ‘94XX’ 0-6-0PT No. 9466, a 4TC EMU set, and a pair of Class 20s (Nos. 20142 and 20205).
LT electric Sarah Siddons was unable to feature in the event, with No. 20142 acting as translator between the steam locomotives’ vacuum brakes and the air brakes of the stock.
