THE end of Liverpool’s trams 60 years ago formed the subject for a series of events held by the Merseyside Tramway Preservation Society (MTPS) and Wirral Transport Museum (WTM) in mid-September, culminating in a celebratory event on September 16.
On September 14, six decades exactly since the last tram ran, the WTM hosted the Mayor of Wirral for a commemorative day, including the launch of a new pictorial exhibition, and the opening of a display of model trams at the Museum of Liverpool.
Liverpool’s Last Trams – the end of the line! was the title for the special day of celebration two days later, when the WTM joined forces with National Museums Liverpool and the Museum of Liverpool to host a series of presentations and tram-related events.

Proceedings began at midday with a two-car special tram service featuring ex-Liverpool Corporation Tramways ‘Baby Grand’ No. 245 and bogie car No. 762, with horse tram No. 43 also taking part.
