THE Llanelli & Mynydd Mawr Railway held its first public event on September 3, and was considered a great success.
The railway is being established at the old Cynheidre Colliery site in South Wales.
More than 250 paying visitors attended, plus many children, who were free of charge, despite it being a wet and windy day.

The event was formally opened by Shadow Secretary of State for Defence and MP for Llanelli Nia Griffith.
She had the honour of riding on the first passenger train to traverse the restored railway, a brakevan worked by 4wDH No. 10222 Peter J. Griffiths (Rolls-Royce 10222 of 1965).
There was a display of colliery artefacts in the new heritage centre featuring the history of the railway and its route, which dates back to 1802.
