DRS Class 20/3s have returned to active service on the seasonal Rail Head Treatment Trains, having spent most of the year in store.
This year it’s just three back in traffic unlike 2016 when five were reinstated.
Nos. 20302/303/305, having been at Barrow Hill, ventured out initially on September 29.

Two will be used on a RHTT, the third will be a maintenance spare.
Whether this is the final year for the class on RHTT duties – the oldest being 20302, completed in September 1961 – remains to be seen, but with plenty of new traction in the form of
Class 68 and 88s, the writing must be on the wall for a number of older locos.
Five Class 57/0 and a 57/3 are stored at Longtown, with a further four 20s at Barrow Hill
A tender for the sale of surplus locomotives is thought to be imminent.
