THE Kent & East Sussex Railway will continue to provide a home for the Terrier Trust’s two former LBSCR ‘A1X’ 0-6-0Ts.
This follows a new agreement that will keep the ‘Terriers’ on the line for at least the next 20 years.
The agreement helps secure the long-term future of Nos. 3 Bodiam and 32678 Knowle, ensuring both continue to be a feature of the line they have operated since 1901 and 1937, respectively.

The initial term will be 20 years, with an automatic renewal every 10 years.
A longer 10-year break clause provides security for the KESR, which will remain responsible for maintenance and overhauls, allowing the railway to keep at least one of the ‘Terriers’ in traffic at all times.
Also included are new provisions for insurance cover, which will make it possible for the KESR to hire the ‘Terriers’ to other preserved railways, something that has not been possible since 2008.
