S&D to Chilcompton… almost!

ROGER Hibbert’s ‘Jinty’ 0-6-0T No. 47406 made a return visit to the Midsomer Norton base of the Somerset & Dorset Railway Heritage Trust for its March 10-11 Spring Gala (pictured), working alongside resident Sentinel 4wVBT No. 7109.

The event provided a first opportunity to travel over part of the line’s quarter-mile extension towards Chilcompton Tunnel, which when in full use will give the railway a running line of three-quarters of a mile.

Unfortunately, plans to run the ‘Jinty’ the following weekend were scuppered after snow forced the railway to cancel trains on March 18. However, day’s steamings were postponed until March 24 when the ‘3F’ worked the final trains of this visit. PETER NICHOLSON
