Devon Railway Centre marks 20th anniversary with gala

THE Devon Railway Centre (DRC), near Tiverton, celebrates 20 years of operation with a gala on May 12-13.

All three 7¼in-gauge locos will be running: Cromar White ‘Hymek’ Bo-BoBE, 4wPH Pfeifferbahn 20 of 1993, and the rarely used Bimpson Bo-BoPH ‘Rio Grande’.

A platform shelter was built last year for the miniature line station, now named Dockside, as it stands beside the site of the old cattle dock.

The main loco used is an anonymous ‘Hymek’, believed to be Cromar White D7011, new to Twycross Zoo Miniature Railway, Leicestershire in 1969.

The DRC acquired it in 1999, with its 200cc Norton-Villiers two-stroke engine having been replaced by battery-electric power.
