A LOCOMOTIVE pairing with a combined age of 207 years was the showpiece of a wet Chasewater Railway gala over September 3-4, with both coming from the Andrew Barclay stable.
A threat of rain for the Saturday was fully actioned by the start of train services at 10am; a heavy and persistent downpour settled in until mid-afternoon. As a result the first few trains were on the quiet side, although a number of hardy souls had braved the conditions to see what is traditionally the railway’s showpiece event.
Six locomotives (four steam, two diesel) were in charge of the train services over the two days, with a seventh – Rail Support Services Class 08 No. 08683 – being employed as station pilot at Brownhills West.
