PTG Tours: Celebrating 20 years of holiday expertise

by

This established UK-based company offers ‘general interest rail, nature and culture’ and a separate programme of ‘enthusiast’ holidays from the UK using rail travel as a theme.

Comfort, enjoyment, leisurely days and friendship are the secrets of their success.

They specialise in countries and areas not covered by other operators. The company is one of the few rail holiday companies which are both ATOL & ABTA bonded.

In the UK they offer ‘In Style’ luxury trips to Snowdonia, Scotland and the west country of England.

For those with more of a steam haulage interest we have trips to North Borneo and Taiwan, the famous Sandstone Festival in South Africa, Belgium, Austria, Colombia and the western states of the USA.

For more modern rail enthusiasts there are several tours planned. The first, at the end of January is a three-day charter around Spain formed of vintage carriages hauled by a vintage 321 Alco locomotive. Starting in Madrid it gives a rare chance for loco-hauled travel to Teruel and Cuenca.

Next up is an annual visit to Hungary featuring a charter train formed of vintage MAV carriages (including buffet car) with haulage by many different types of diesel locomotives, including ex-DB 232 and 233 series locomotives. The train also crosses into Slovakia and Austria and includes some rare, non-passenger, lines.

In July there is a visit to Finland with a circular route, over six days, with various locomotive types and again some rare non-passenger lines.

An additional trip will be added in September/October which will cover either Moldova, Macedonia, Jordan or Israel. Negotiations are taking place with all four countries so watch the PTG website for updates.

A unique attraction of PTG is that anyone booking a holiday is given a completely free customer day out on a special steam-hauled charter train covering the full 80-mile round trip on the Welsh Highland and Ffestiniog Railways in North Wales – usually featuring three of four different locomotives. The 2019 trip is on Monday, June 3.
