SHEFFIELD Corporation double-deck balcony car No. 264 topped Beamish Museum’s record of annual mileage for the second year running during 2018, completing 7,825 miles in total.
This figure is greater than the 7,650 miles notched up during 2017, and would have been even higher had the United Electric Car Company car not suffered a motor failure in late March, which resulted in No. 264 taking a week out of service immediately before the open air museum’s very popular Great North Steam Fair.
Ever-reliable Hurst Nelson-built Newcastle Corporation ‘A’ class car No. 114 recorded the second highest mileage for the year, covering 5,600 miles in service.
