NEWLY outshopped ‘Modified Hall’ No. 6989 Wightwick Hall will get its first real opportunity to ‘stretch its legs’ post-restoration this autumn when it visits the Battlefield Line to take part in the railway’s 50th anniversary gala.

The visit is something of a coup for the Leicestershire line as it will be the only time No. 6989 operates away from the Buckinghamshire Railway Centre (BRC) this year. The Hawksworth 4-6-0 returned to steam last December after a four-decade restoration, and will spend much of the year working at the BRC’s Quainton base.

It will not move to Shackerstone until after the BRC’s own 50th anniversary weekend on August 25-26, but the intention is for it to be at the Battlefield Line in time for it to undergo a period of trial running before the October 18-20 event.
