ROG takes Brush Type 2s on festive trip to Norfolk

DERBY’S Rail Operations Group is to take the last two main line-certificated Class 31s on a festive jaunt from King’s Cross to the Mid-Norfolk Railway’s winter diesel gala on December 30.

Devon & Cornwall Railways Type 2 No. 31452 pauses briefly at Crediton while conveying Class 45 No. 45060 Sherwood Forester and Class 33 No. 33035 from Barrow Hill to the Dartmoor Railway on November 18. The ‘31’ will be one of the stars of the Rail Operations Group’s ‘One Last Task’ railtour on December 30. TIM SQUIRES

The ‘One Last Task’ tour is being operated in conjunction with Vintage Trains. It will feature Devon & Cornwall Railways’ No. 31452 working together with Network Rail-owned No. 31233, a ‘Wessex’ (Class 442) EMU, and ROG’s own ex-Riviera Trains Type 4 No. 47812.

The special will depart from King’s Cross at 07.30 and will pick-up at Potters Bar and Stevenage, then proceed via Hitchin, Letchworth, Royston, Cambridge, Ely, Thetford to Wymondham.

Arrival time back at King’s Cross is expected at 21.30, with the Type 2s following the outward route taken in the morning, albeit excluding the Hitchin flyover.
