Conductor strikes on East Midlands Trains to go ahead in pay row
The first of a series of senior conductor strikes on East Midlands Trains will go ahead this Saturday amid a continued deadlock over pay.
Members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport union (RMT) will walk out on three consecutive Saturdays, as a result of rows over issues including pay and Sunday working.

RMT general secretary Mick Cash said: “East Midlands Trains’ lack of commitment to deal with our concerns over contractual issues such as compulsory Sunday working, wage discrimination and other matters is a total disgrace.
Virtual Hyperloop concept offers glimpse into future of travel
A virtual glimpse into the future of high-speed ground transport has been revealed by a group of engineers and designers, who have envisaged how Elon Musk’s Hyperloop could look.
The immersive virtual reality experience details the exterior and interior design of travel pods, which pass through a station filled with information screens and navigational signage.
‘Government should not manage railways’ – review chief
Oversight of Britain’s railways should be in the hands of one individual or body which is independent of Government, according to the head of a major review.
Former British Airways chief executive Keith Williams is leading the Government-commissioned Rail Review. He said the appointment of a “Fat Controller” type figure would be “key for regaining public trust”.
Train given rainbow livery to mark Brighton and Hove Pride
Govia Thameslink Railway has unveiled a train emblazoned with a rainbow livery ahead of Brighton and Hove Pride.

Austrian Zillertalbahn engine to visit Welshpool for 2 years!
A narrow gauge steam locomotive from Austria is to go on hire to the Welshpool & Llanfair Railway for two years.
The Zillertalbahn’s newly overhauled U-class 0-6-2T No. 2 Zillertal is expected to star in the mid Wales 2ft 6in gauge line’s August 30-September 1 steam gala. Also, the Krauss-built locomotive is set to be paired with the WLLR’s former Zillertalbahn balcony carriages to form the ‘Austrian Train’.
November launch for new Great British Model Railway Show
An ambitious and prestigious model railway show is being hosted by the award-winning British Motor Museum at Gaydon, Warwickshire, over the weekend of November 9-10. The show will feature up to 30 layouts and 25 specialist traders, as well as a number of modelling demonstrations in a Skills Zone.
Also, visitors to the show will also be able to enjoy the extensive displays of the British Motor Museum itself. If transport is an issue, a free shuttle bus will be in operation from Leamington Spa station on the Saturday.
