HISTORY was made at DB’s London Eurohub terminal in Barking (the old Ripple Lane site) when the first container train from China to the UK arrived on January 18.
The train was operated by the InterRail Group, a multi-national transport operator based in Switzerland, on behalf of Chinese Railways subsidiary CRIMT (China Railway International Multimodal Transport).

The train left Yiwu, in the eastern Chinese province of Zhejiang, south-east of Shanghai, on January 1 and reached Barking, in east London, after a 7,736 mile (12,451km) journey.
The train was then prepared for a ceremonial ‘arrival’ later that day at 13.00 in front of invited guests and a large number of media organisations from around the world.
