ONLY one of the 20 1800 Class Co-Co diesel locos built between 1963 and 1964 by La Brugeoise et Nivelles (BN) remains in service in Luxembourg with state operator CFL.
The locos are fitted with an EMD 16-567C engine and were based upon the very similar Class 55 design, also built by BN for neighbouring Belgium in 1961/62.
For many years the CFL 1800 class was used for both passenger and freight trains, but passenger work largely ended in 2004.

Of the other 20, one is preserved in a non-operational state by SSMN in Luxembourg and another two were sold to a German operator; one of which has since donated its engine to a NoHAB ex-Danish Railways loco in Germany.
CFL Cargo still uses six, but in Denmark with its Danish subsidiary, with most of the rest either scrapped or stored.
