TWO days of very different operations kept the Chasewater Railway’s working fleet busy during its Industrial Gala on March 18-19 when the line’s various ‘small but perfectly formed’ four-wheeled types came to the fore.
The Saturday was a day of experimentation, with a specially written timetable giving the three steam locomotives – Andrew Barclays Rosyth No. 1 (1385/1914) and Colin McAndrew (1223/1911), plus Peckett Teddy (2012/1941) – an opportunity to work passenger, brakevan and freight turns.
Diesel locomotives were intrinsic to the successful implementation of the timetable, with North British-built 0-4-0DH No. D2911, Hunslet 0-4-0DH No. 6678, Vanguard 4wDH Helen, and newly arrived Simplex Nos. 15097 and 15099 all in traffic, too.
