THE boiler belonging to Stanier ‘Jubilee’ No. 45596 Bahamas is expected to undergo hydraulic testing at about the time this issue of The RM goes on sale.
Tyseley Locomotive Works has now fitted, expanded and beaded the new tubes, and was completing the caulking at the time of writing.
The overhaul of the boiler has also included the manufacture of a new firebox doorplate and throatplate, plus a new front boiler ring and smokebox tubeplate. Side and crown stays have also been renewed.

At the Bahamas Locomotive Society’s Ingrow base the 4-6-0’s tender is complete and will be sent to Tyseley in due course, with the BR Mk2a BFK support coach (No. M14060) under overhaul at Nemesis Rail, in Burton.
However, a delay in the supply of the latest TPWS equipment means the locomotive will not be finished in time for a hoped-for appearance on Vintage Trains’ ‘Welsh Marches Express’ tour on October 14, 45 years to the day since No. 45596 ran its first train in preservation.
Tyseley’s ‘Castle’ No. 5043 Earl of Mount Edgcumbe is expected to haul the train instead.
