SEPTEMBER 9 saw a small but significant milestone for the team building the Llangollen Railway’s new Corwen Central station – the first rail vehicle reached the end of the new line.
Alas, this was no steam-hauled through train from Llangollen as the new station still remains unconnected to the rest of the railway. So the honour went instead to the Muscleman track machine, which made the first runs to provide a basic alignment, pending final ballasting and tamping.
The connecting of the headshunt and stop block marked the restart of work after rain halted progress for much of August. It effectively concluded the work at the western end of the station site, with activity now shifting to the eastern side.
