A little bit of everything at Severn Valley gala

THERE was something for virtually all tastes at the Severn Valley Railway’s Autumn Steam Gala on September 21-24, featuring four visiting locomotives and much of the home fleet over the four days.

Proceedings got off to a grey and wet start on the Thursday with the North Yorkshire Moors Railway’s ‘Schools’ 4-4-0 No. 926 Repton and the M&GN Joint Railway Society’s 1912-built ‘Y14’ 0-6-0 No. 564 hogging the somewhat overcast limelight.

The Great Eastern Railway 0-6-0 was confined to working the goods train on the first day, with Repton sharing passenger duties alongside Ivatt ‘4MT’ No. 43106 and resident ‘Manors’ Nos. 7802 Bradley Manor and 7812 Erlestoke Manor.

The latter was making its last gala appearance before overhaul, and as such was suitably adorned with
white-painted smokebox door hinges and handle, and white buffers, in true Cambrian style.
