PLANS by property developer St Modwen to demolish the historic remains of Wolverton Works could be the subject of a judicial inquiry.
Developers want to build up to 375 houses in a conservation area along with units for industrial use, and despite vehement objections, Milton Keynes Borough Council has approved the plans. Part of the site has been demolished for a new budget supermarket.
A campaign to throw out the plan has been waged, following the discovery of ‘irregularities’ by the council uncovered in a Freedom of Information request. There has also been intervention from Historic England (HE).

Dr Andy Brown, from HE, said: “Wolverton is a really important heritage place, it is probably the first railway town in the world and the works is an absolutely fundamental part of Wolverton as a town. Without the works, it would be like Cambridge without the colleges.”
