SIX days of both steam and diesel haulage will make up the Railway Preservation Society of Ireland’s annual May railtour and associated fringe events, covering lines from the north east to the south west of the Emerald Isle.
Central to the itinerary is the ‘Cork & Kerry Railtour’ from May 12-14, featuring GNR(I) 4-4-0 No. 85 Merlin and LMS-NCC 2-6-4T No. 4 as the RPSI heads out from Dublin to Tralee and Mallow.
However, the action actually begins two days earlier on May 10 when Merlin works the positioning train down from Whitehead to Dublin. The train will be formed of the Whitehead-based Mk2 stock, leaving the society’s headquarters shortly after 09.00 and reaching Connolly at around 13.45.

The now traditional Friday diesel tour takes place on May 11, this year heading south from Dublin over the former DSER line to Wexford and on to Rosslare.
The ‘Second Strand Tour’ will feature Class 071 haulage throughout and is anticipated to leave Connolly at 10.30, returning at 20.30.
